I am going to try to make these for my daughter's birthday party, since Tangled is the theme. What do you recommend using for the purple "roof"? I have a homemade frosting recipe that I love, but I don't know if it will be stiff enough to use... Thanks!
I used my Italian Buttercream for the purple "roof", and it was sturdy enough to hold up. I'm fairly certain almost any icing recipe would work on these - American or French Buttercream, marshmallow or 7-minute frosting, cooked frosting - anything with a little body to it. Even plain whipped cream would hold up for a short time.
I used a standard cake box and cut strips of bristol board to create squares inside it that would support the sides of the cones (sort of like a milk crate). It kept the cupcakes from bumping into each other and there was no damage to any of them. Thanks!
What did you use to decorate the outside of the cone? I absolutely LOVE this idea, but don't want a bunch of messy hands!! :-) Thanks in advance!
ReplyDeleteThe decorations on the cone are all done with Royal Icing - it dries rock hard, so there's absolutely no mess.
DeleteThanks for looking!
